Here are the boys from the Mens shed Patrick on the left George in front Don at back Barry (Baz) Mens shed and Friends of the lighthouse little bloke in front and of course our very own Dodgey (Roger purveyor of print and all things architectural and club blogster)  Don't the boys look happy!!
The Caloundra Men's Shed boys have done a brilliant job so far their work is fabulous and they certainly get in there and get the job done.
What we do with these things?????

Oh OK now we get it we use them on that big thing behind us Duh!!

The boys from the Men's Shed have been busy helping the Friends of The Caloundra Lighthouse.

Their week has been fraught with some technical hitches e.g. blowing up a couple of angle grinders.........................Boys will be boys!!

Always a good idea to read instructions first or you could come unstuck or stuck as was the case with mixing a recipe of epoxy - yikes!!!

DO NO TRY THIS AT HOME!!!

Program

28th October - Vocational Visit to NASKAM

Milling around
Camera tester - wonder how mine rates?
Chair
Bernie
Bernie welcomed all to NASKAM

Makeups
Merv used up all of the short time available with every minor detail of his many makeups
around Australia, starting in Adelaide at the Inner Wheel Conference.  He made it back to the Coast for an Ambulance meeting and related the story of Mary Christmas, who donated $110,000 to the Ambulance over a number of years before moving to a nursing home in Toowoomba.  The Communications centre in Maroochydore is finished.  Finally there was a RYDA meeting where Neville noted we picked up the “best RYDA venue” award.  The Global Grant for work in the Solomans submitted in association with Cal Pac & Sydney Cove clubs was knocked back due to some technicality with the solar cells fitting in with their water & sanitation agenda - it is now being revised for another shot

President's Report
Sorry - no time available
 Maks
Speaker
Maks Maksan, owner of NASKAM (Maksan spelt backwards) welcomed us and introduced Natalie who would help out with the tours.

NASKAM is an “overnight success” with a very long night stretching back to 1986.

They started with alarms & monitors, then did patrols, then not.  They concentrate on alarm/camera installation and monitoring.  They view the crime rate much like doctors view disease - not necessarily happy with it, but acknowledge it does bring business.

Technology is changing fast, with good video now on your smartphone.  Some discussion around problems at Christmas with overstocked premises and Santa Claus running amok.

NASKAM operates around Australia,
but the nature of the business does not need a capital city location.

Bernie thanked Maks and Natalie for our visit

Nerve centre
So glad we were in that double locked room because
there was a very shady character wandering around the premises

Speaker
Pam Introduced Robert
She had “pages and pages” of stuff about him
which she wisely kept to herself
But she did mention a number of books and website
Not only does Bob share the name of our former Prime Minister, but also his 5th Dec birthdate (same as Ann too)

Bob thanked Pam and proceeded to tell of his journey as a writer
He had been a teacher at Knox Grammar in Sydney where he famously told Hugh Jackman he wouldn’t be an actor as he had “no talent”
He ended up down and out in Britain where he witnessed an assault on another park bench user, and when helped by police were hauled over the coals for using the names Harold Wilson and Robert Peel - Bob’s pseudonym
(Sir Robert Menzies was a big name in London at the time)
Turns out “Roy” did it for a laugh
Bob’s night in the cell with Roy proved most inspirational
and started his writing career

The only obstacle for an eagle in flight is the air, but air is also the thing which holds it up
Moral - we need challenges to be our best

Bob also talked about his latest books, with a signing after the meeting

Iain thanked Bob for his most informative talk
